EduLeaf is an independent educational technology project developing practical digital tools for teachers, students and schools.
The idea behind EduLeaf is simple: educational technology should solve real problems.
Rather than starting with technology and looking for somewhere to use it, EduLeaf projects begin with situations encountered in everyday education — situations where better digital tools could make teaching, learning, communication or organisation easier.
Today, EduLeaf is home to two projects:
TripControl
School trips, organised.
TripControl helps teachers plan, manage and carry out school trips by bringing schedules, communication, activities, maps, meeting points and safety tools together in one platform.
LinguaLink
Languages, connected.
LinguaLink creates opportunities for authentic language learning by connecting students across schools in teacher-managed digital communication spaces.
From the classroom
EduLeaf was founded by Jani Syrjälä, a language teacher based in the Åland Islands, Finland.
The projects have grown from experiences in education and from identifying situations where existing digital tools do not quite match what teachers actually need.
TripControl began with a practical question:
Could organising and carrying out a school trip be simpler, more structured and safer?
LinguaLink began with another:
Could students learning different languages be given a genuine reason to communicate with each other?
Those questions developed into working digital platforms.
Our approach
Start with the educational need
Technology should support the activity, not become the activity.
Keep teachers in control
Teachers understand their students, their classrooms and their educational goals. EduLeaf tools are designed to support that professional role.
Make participation simple
Students should not need to navigate unnecessary technical complexity before they can participate.
Build for real situations
EduLeaf projects are developed with actual educational use in mind and are refined through testing, feedback and practical experience.
Develop responsibly
Privacy, security, accessibility and appropriate use of technology are considered throughout development — particularly when tools are intended for schools and young people.
Independent and evolving
EduLeaf is an independent project and remains actively under development.
Features will change. Ideas will be tested. Some will be improved, replaced or removed.
That development process is deliberately visible.
